Making Order from Chaos

Today’s topic about chaos really hit home for me today, pardon the real estate pun. I feel like I have been trying to create order from chaos my whole life. 

When I was a stay-at-home parent of four children it was a never ending cycle of cooking meals, doing dishes, tidying up…rinse and repeat for more than a decade. 

And as an elementary school teacher, I quickly learned that having a solid lesson plan helped to keep the lid on the chaos that could bubble up at any moment; there was no “winging it” in a well-functioning classroom. 

And again, in my real estate business working with downsizing seniors there’s a great deal of complexity that needs to be simplified for my clients. Yes, you have to embrace the chaos from time to time: the joy in parenting was often those small, intimate moments of special connection completely unrelated to the tasks at hand. And some of the best lessons in the classroom were spontaneously arrived at, almost in spite my lesson plan. But when it comes time to downsize, there is already so much internal upheaval, you need to know that someone has things in control. You’ve not moved for decades, but I move two or three people a month! You’ve never bought a condo, but I have, literally dozens of times. 

The point is that there is a time and place for embracing chaos, but selling your home isn’t one of them. You need a plan. You need trusted advisors. And you need someone to tell you what to do with all that junk in the basement!
