Two things Seniors should look for in a Realtor®

Downsizing Seniors have a lot of choices when it comes to Realtor®. More than 50,000 in the GTHA to choose from, actually. So how to pick the right Realtor® for Seniors?

First, hire a Realtor® who specializes in working with the 55+ crowd. Boomers, Zoomers and Gen Xers have very different needs, communication preferences, and challenges than their less “experienced” counterparts. Although they’re not first-time sellers or buyers, they are “first-time-in-a-long-time” clients who might need coaching about the current market realities, especially when it comes to understanding the impact of a digitized sale process. This demographic also needs help with decluttering, staging and security. They need a Realtor® who has vetted service providers to help with the preparation of the home for sale. A healthy dose of patience and the ability to instill confidence and trust are also characteristics to look for.

Second, choose a Realtor® with a proven track record, someone who can show you with facts & figures, not smooth talk or high pressure, that they achieve the best possible results for their clients. They should be able to clearly explain how they plan to market the property, how they arrived at the suggested list price, and what services are included in their fees. Considering they are dealing with a client’s most valuable asset, any Realtor® must be able to put their promises on paper. Ask for testimonials, check out their website, and do your due diligence to make sure your Realtor® has the experience and expertise to fit the particular needs of Senior clients.
