Get Ready to Downsize - Pt 2

On Wednesday, June 18th at 4:00 pm we are offering our workshop, “Get Ready to Downsize” via Zoom. Last week I shared that preparing to sell your oversized family home begins with doing a bit of self-discovery. You might have lived 30, 40 or more years in the same home, living in a familiar pattern, but downsizing gives you an exciting opportunity to reinvent your lifestyle to better meet your financial, wellness and aging needs. 

To begin, I encourage my downsizing clients to spend time identifying their motivations when considering a move. What are you hoping to accomplish by selling your home? More freedom, less work? Being closer to kids or grandkids? Supplementing your income with part of the proceeds of the sale? Knowing what you want out of your retirement is key to plotting a course that will get you there. 

It’s also important to figure out what is blocking your progress on downsizing. Getting clear on your obstacles will also allow you to brainstorm the remedy. Do you have too much stuff to deal with? Are you uncertain where to go next? Are you overwhelmed by the prospect of leaving the familiar? These are all legitimate challenges that we help address with our concierge real estate services.
